Chris set up Ovation Finance in 2000 as a fee-based financial planning firm. In 2018 he sold a majority stake to an Employee Ownership Trust.
During that period, Chris achieved his diploma in business coaching. The proposition of Ovation developed to coaching clients first, then providing financial planning, then applying the technical knowledge. He has spoken extensively on this subject at many conferences in the UK and abroad.
As well as two novels, Chris is the author The Financial Wellbeing Book. The book and the accompanying podcast explore how to use financial planning to make us happier, not just wealthier.
In 2019 he set up the Initiative for Financial Wellbeing (IFW) to bring together members of the financial advice, financial planning and financial coaching community who want to improve clients' financial wellbeing.
Among other things, the IFW carries out research into the principles of money and happiness, hosts events to spread knowledge and collaborates with other organisations to promote financial wellbeing.
Chris' latest book, The Eternal Business, explores employee ownership and building sustainable businesses. He now consults with owners and employees of businesses who are, or who aspire to be, employee-owned.
He is married with two teenage children and lives in Somerset.
